Bettye Luiz the owner of Shields and West Barber Shop, is Fresno's local "Betty Boop", and proudly displays her namesake in her shop. Bettye has been cutting hair for over 62 years in the same location, and she has helped many financially in the community over her years in business, sometimes even cutting hair for free for the homeless.
In addition, she's given new barbers an opportunity to advance their career, teaching them business basics, such as how to handle money. Despite increasingly difficult times, she has had the same prices for 32 years, but it's hard to say what keeps customers coming back more, her prices, or her smile.
